**Physics and Chance: Philosophical Issues in the Foundations of Statistical Mechanics free download by Do Tran Cat, Annemarie Pucci, Klaus Rainer Wandelt**

Statistical mechanics is one of the crucial fundamental theories of physics, and in his new book Lawrence Sklar, one of the pre-eminent philosophers of physics, offers a comprehensive, non-technical introduction to that theory and to attempts to understan...

**Statistical Mechanics: A Short Treatise pdf free by Giovanni Gallavotti**

This critical analysis of the foundations of statistical mechanics based on Boltzmann's work emphasizes the relationship between microscopic reversibility and macroscopic irreversibility. It discusses the theory of ensembles and phase-transition phenomena...

**Statistical Mechanics: A Short Treatise free epub by Steven H. Weintraub**

This book presents a critical and modern analysis of the conceptual foundations of statistical mechanics as laid down in Boltzmann's works. The author emphasises the relation between microscopic reversibility and macroscopic irreversibility. Students will...

**Modern Thermodynamics with Statistical Mechanics free epub by Carl S. Helrich (auth.)**

With the aim of presenting thermodynamics in as simple and as unified a form as possible, this textbook starts with an introduction to the first and second laws and then promptly addresses the complete set of the potentials in a subsequent chapter and as ...

**Statistical Mechanics of Disordered Systems: A Mathematical Perspective free pdf by Anton Bovier**

Our mathematical understanding of the statistical mechanics of disordered systems is going through a period of stunning progress. This self-contained book is a graduate-level introduction for mathematicians and for physicists interested in the mathematica...

**The Mathematical Theory of Minority Games: Statistical Mechanics of Interacting Agents (Oxford Finance) free epub by A.C.C. Coolen**

Minority games are simple mathematical models initially designed to understand the co-operative phenomena observed in markets. Their core ingredients are large numbers of interacting decision-making agents, each aiming for personal gain in an artificial ...

In a certain sense this book has been twenty-five years in the writing, since I first struggled with the foundations of the subject as a graduate student. It has taken that long to develop a deep appreciation of what Gibbs was attempting to convey to us near the end of his life and to understand fully the same ideas as resurrected by E.T. Jaynes much later. Many classes of students were destined to help me sharpen these thoughts before I finally felt confident that, for me at least, the foundations of the subject had been clarified sufficiently. More than anything, this work strives to address the following questions: What is statistical mechanics? Why is this approach so extraordinarily effective in describing bulk matter in terms of its constituents? The response given here is in the form of a very definite point of view-the principle of maximum entropy (PME). There have been earlier attempts to approach the subject in this way, to be sure, reflected in the books by Tribus [Thermostat ics and Thermodynamics, Van Nostrand, 1961], Baierlein [Atoms and Information Theory, Freeman, 1971], and Hobson [Concepts in Statistical Mechanics, Gordon and Breach, 1971].
